Petco sells Hermit crabs with colorfully painted shells. The paint is toxic, the process itself is inhumane and the result is an unhealthy creature. This type of unnatural decoration cultivates an attitude of "animals as accessories," which we see in the live turtle keychains, for example. Animals, especially those we keep as pets, deserve every consideration and we should not impose an artificial aesthetic onto their bodies and shells.
Please help me send a clear message to Petco that they need to stop the sale of these Hermit crabs immediately. As a popular vendor of both animals, and the items they need to live ie; cages, food, toys, Petco needs to have a higher ethical standard. Animals are not accessories.

We lovers of animals call on Petco to stop the sale of painted Hermit crabs and to avoid any future sales of animals altered from their natural form for the sheer purpose of human amusement.
