Orcas, or "Killer Whales" are wild creatures. They belong in the ocean.
These beautiful mammals are ripped from their loving and close families. Some orcas die in the capture.
Those that survive are condemned to a life in a prison, forced to perform unnatural circus tricks for their next meal. These performing whales live only 10 years in captivity. That's 10 years of a natural life span of 50 to 80 years.
After shows, orcas are left in tanks that are smaller than the show tanks. They become bored, depressed and angry. Some orcas kill themselves.
These animals are not "ambassadors" as some have claimed. They are prisoners, taken by force from loving families in the wild. They belong in the open sea, where there is ample scientific evidence that they will be welcomed back into their families of origin.
Every once in a while, one of the captive orca whales at SeaWorld or similar “amusement” parks breaks into our consciousness by doing something that gets the attention of the media.
This happened again in November, when one of the many so-called “Shamu”s at SeaWorld in San Diego grabbed her trainer by the foot and dragged him underwater.
“Shamu” was telling us something.
Without causing serious harm to her trusted trainer, the magnificent captive mammal shouted for freedom.
We, the Undersigned, demand that Sea World discontinue their Orca Amusement Parks in all states and countries, and set the orcas free.
