Due to multiple accidents at the intersection of 5th Ave So & Hwy 494 there needs to be stoplights installed. There were 2 accidents in 2 days with one being quite serious. They are not just car crashes but pedestrians are also involved. The MN Department of Transportation (MNDOT) has jurisdiction over whether stoplights can be placed there or not.
The City of So St Paul has the funding for their portion of the cost but the MNDOT does not think stoplights need to be installed. They want to put up a 4 way stop. The stoplights at 7th Ave S & Hwy 494 have dramatically reduced the amount of accidents in that area
We, the undersigned, call for the installation of stoplights at the intersection of 5th Ave So and Hwy 494 in South Saint Paul, MN to reduce the number of accidents in that area.
