Levees are costly and bad for the environment.
I understand that the price to fix the levees in Southwestern Illinois is now above $400 million. And I understand that levees are unnatural changes to the environment.
I don’t want the federal government...
-To step in to save the levees;
-To encourage property owners to alter their landscape;
-To subsidize insurance for the people who own property in the flood plain.
Leave the levees alone and use the money for something worthwhile.
