Israel commenced its military offensive on Gaza on 27/12/2008. Latest reports are that the Palestinian dead are in excess of 900 (including 277 children) and the injured in excess of 4000.

Israel has also been imposing a total blockade of the Gaza strip, restricting the import of food and medical supplies and denying the right of civilians to flee the assault.

Amnesty International and other humanitarian organisations have categorised this blockade as "collective punishment", which is illegal under international humanitarian law (http://www.amnesty.org.au/images/uploads/action/Report-Gaza.pdf).

The Australian government has been almost silent as these atrocities continue. It has not condemned Israel for its illegal blockade and offensive on Gaza and has not taken appropriate steps to pressure Israel into halting its oppression of the Palestinian people.

We call on all peace loving Australians to sign this petition and send a clear and unified message to our government. We would also appeal to you to support Amnesty International's collective letter to our Prime Minister.

The link for this is as follows: http://www.amnesty.org.au/centre/action/20079

We, the undersigned, call on the Australian Government to condemn Israel’s breach of its ceasefire agreement with Hamas on 4 November and subsequent bombing and invasion of the Gaza Strip which has killed hundreds of Palestinian children and other noncombatants, injured thousands more, destroyed the civilian infrastructure and provoked retaliatory rocket attacks.

We further call on our government to initiate international efforts to restore Palestinians’ freedom of movement throughout and between Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem through diplomatic and economic pressure on the Israeli government.

The Stop Israel's Offensive on Gaza petition to The Australian Government was written by Romi and is in the category Human Rights at GoPetition.
