The current economic situation is bad and getting worse due to the unwillingness of many in Congress to compromise. If government is allowed to shut down, we will all feel significant difficulty in terms of increased interest rates, lost jobs, and an increased national debt.
A very short shut down will result in years of increased difficulty. Our elected representatives need to clearly see a personal financial consequence of the decisions they make about this shut down.
We must not allow it to be an amorphous, subjective thing that does not affect their own kitchen table budgets.
In the event that Congress shuts down, all Congressional pay and benefits should stop at 12:01 a.m. on the first day of the shut down.
