MAKE A DIFFERENCE: STOP CHILD HUNGER
According to Article 27 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child “State parties recognize the right of every child to a standard of living adequate for the child’s physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social development.” (United Nations) Canada is a state party to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and is bound by international law to abide by it.
According to a CBC report on child poverty issued in 2000, there are over 170,000 children living below the poverty line in Toronto. Also, according to a study by the Daily Bread Food Bank entitled “Fighting Hunger”, from April 2009 to March 2010 the number of client visits to Toronto food banks reached 997,000. Tragically 37% are children.
This petition aims to gain your support in the struggle against child hunger by formally expressing our concern about this issue to the Canadian Government.
Children are our most vulnerable and valuable treasure, let’s protect them.
