Catawba County Board of Commissioners and Local Catawba County Government have requested that Hickory Rescue Squad discontinue their services on June 30, 2018. We, the members of the Hickory Rescue Squad realize by cutting our operation that a tremendous amount of citizens will be affected by this change. Currently Hickory Rescue is the only Heavy Rescue provider on this end of Catawba County. Hickory Rescue also serves 3 different areas of the western side of Catawba County. If Hickory Rescue closes its doors citizens of the Mountain View area will have services cut due to the contract that Mountain View Fire Department provides which is medical first response only during the hours of 8am-5pm Monday thru Friday. Mountain View Fire Department is only contracted to provide continuous service to its citizens for Structure Fire Response, Traffic Accidents, and medical events such as Cardiac Arrest, all other calls are provided service by Hickory Rescue 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In the Vale area Hickory Rescue is the only agency that has a contractual agreement with Catawba County to provide a 6 minute response to its citizens for all events that may transpire (Structure Fires, Traffic Accidents, Rescue Related calls, and anything where medical care will be provided). Propst Fire Department is not equipped with the same equipment for Rescue and will not be able to supplement these services once our doors close. Cookesville Fire Department currently only has 3 EMT's that are able to provide any kind medical response. Cookesville Fire Department also does not possess the equipment that Hickory Rescue has to provide rescue related assistance in their community. Please, help Hickory Rescue stop the Board of Commissioners and Catawba County management from closing the doors and cutting service to the citizens in these areas that have been provided for the past 63 years. Help Hickory Rescue demand to know what coverage will be implemented to provide the services that Hickory Rescue currently provides.

We, the members of Hickory Rescue Squad request that the Catawba County Board of Commissioners, and Catawba County Management keep the doors open to the citizens of our community so that we may continue to provide the services that these citizens have received for the past 63 years. We the members of Hickory Rescue Squad call to the attention of those trying to shut our doors to tell the members of the community how service will continue to be provided to the rural areas of Mountain View, Vale, and Cookesville. Hickory Rescue Squad asks to be allowed to continue to provide emergency first response and heavy rescue services to our citizens in this area of Catawba County.
