THANKS TO YOU, Our tethering ordinance passed in the City of New Bern and Craven County! We are continuing to move forward with spay and neuter ordinances in our sights next!
This petition is for CRAVEN COUNTY, NC RESIDENTS ONLY. The purpose of this is to gain support for a county wide ordinance restricting the act of tethering, (tying), pets to stationary objects as their way of life. It is also to define what adequate food water and shelter refer to in the care and management of animals.
We, the undersigned residents of Craven County NC, are signing in support of banning animal tethering as a way of life in our communities. We understand the hazards, deplorable conditions and health risks both to the animals that are tied and to those who come in contact with them. We understand animals being tied by chains ropes and other means can cause strangulation, hanging and attacks from other animals with no means for escape to the tied animal.
We also understand prosecution for the neglect and abuse of animals is difficult due to the fact that NC state law does not define what adequate food, water and shelter constitute.
