When someone is 'ignored', it inevitably has a negative impact on their chat experience. Particularly if the person(s) who has ignored them is playing an active part in the current discussion. The ignored chatter can miss out vital parts of the chat, and be left confused and isolated from the room.
This is of course fair enough, if the ignored chatter has behaved in a way which warrants them being ignored. However, it has become apparent that a number of chatters have chosen to abuse this facility by ignoring every chatter they do not know, thus leaving them excluded from the chat and isolated within the room, despite having done nothing wrong.
This exclusion has without doubt caused a number of chatters to end their use of Noesis chat, and seek a more welcoming chat experience.
We the undersigned petition Noesis Chat to amend the 'Ignore' feature to require the mutual agreement of both chatters concerned, or approval by a Navigator.
It is important that chatters have the right to ignore who they choose, however it is equally important that this feature is not abused resulting in the exclusion and isolation of innocent chatters.
In order to achieve this, we believe an ignore request should be mutually agreed by both parties. And in those events where it is not agreed by both parties, we believe it should require approval from a Navigator. The Navigator should not get into debate whether ignore is the right option, but simply to confirm that the requestor has had contact with the chatter to be ignored. To be clear, this is not a request for a Navigator to make a judgement on whether the ignore request is warranted, but simply to confirm that contact has been made between the two parties.
We believe that taking this action will improve the chat for everybody, by keeping it open, approachable and fair, whilst also protecting the right of chatters to ignore who they choose.
