In November of 2014, the Washington State Governor's Office of the Education Ombuds submitted a report to the Legislature, Governor and Superintendent of Public Instruction on the creation of a statewide Special Education Task Force (http://oeo.wa.gov/wp-content/uploads/SpecialEdTaskForce-Report_Nov2014.pdf) The report included information and input from a broad group of stakeholders (parents, educators, professional, lawyers . . .) People who attended these meetings were energized and encouraged about the possibility of improving child outcomes.

The Superintendent of Public Instructions response to the Legislature on Friday, March 27, 2015, criticized OEO and does nothing to address the serious issues with our states Special Education system. In addition, his response discredits the ideas and input from the people who attended those meetings. His response shows that OSPI is unwilling to consider change and intends to do things the way they have done them for the last 40 years.

We need to stand up for Special Education and stand together for change. Please join us by signing this petition.

We, the undersigned, support the Washington State Governor's Office of the Education Ombuds (OEO) recommendation to create a "Blue-Ribbon" Commission. Parents and educators know that the current "system" is broken.

We will NEVER make an impact on child outcomes, without challenging the status quo. We will NEVER affect change without collaborative meaningful conversations.
