The Hong Kong Education Bureau recognizes that there has been a significant increase in rental prices in Hong Kong over the last few years and therefore has aptly agreed to raise the NET Scheme teachers' Special Allowance to compensate accordingly.
Unfortunately, only new NETs or those NETs renewing their contracts in the 2014/2015 year will receive the increase while NETs who are mid-contract will need to wait until their contracts are renewed, which will mean missing out on the increase for another 12 months in most cases.
We feel the increase should be applied to all eligible NETs as we have all had to endure the significant rise in rental prices over the last few years and will continue to do so over the next few years irrespective of when our contracts are renewed.
To ensure fairness and equality for all, the Special Allowance increase should apply to all eligible NETs employed under the EDB's Enhanced NET Scheme irrespective of contract renewal date.
