Slow down Plimmerton traffic

The suburb of Plimmerton is characterised by narrow winding roads, challenging off street parking, and three main routes through the suburb. These routes all converge on one exit road which has had traffic calming measures and pedestrian protection for a while. However, Moana Road, Motahara road, Airlie Road and Cluney Road have minimal to no traffic calming facilities, are winding and narrow, and have large numbers of cars parked on the road, especially in the summer months. Motor vehicles are driven down these roads at unsafe speeds, leading to many pet deaths from vehicles, near misses for children, and numerous sideswipes on cars either parked in the road. Furthermore, the ability to exit driveways during peak periods is becoming more and more challenging given the lack clear space, and motor vehicle speed.

I would like to propose that PCC introduce traffic calming and pedestrian safe zones through the suburb on these streets, slightly reduce the amount of parking available to non residents, and encourage visitors to park their vehicles in plimmerton domain, or yacht club area and walk into the suburbs and sea shore. Priority for parking should be given to residents, disabled, and the elderly, outside of these areas.

This would not only preserve and enhance the village like atmosphere of the suburb, but also create a pedestrian friendly waterfront for all to enjoy, and minimise the use of the seafront road as a race track. This would encourage greater use, and longer visitation time.
