October of 2009 a Family in the West-Carleton Township lost a very important person due to a car accident on Kerwin Road in Dunrobin in Ottawa's west end. This person was their eldest son of a Family of four. He was only 18 years old. This was not the first fatal accident on this road.

We all truly believe that the speed limit on Kerwin Road should be lowered especially around the bends & sharp curves on the road. A lower speed limit should start between Berry Side Road and Mowbray Street.

Just last year on November 17th a woman & man and two young children in the back of the car had a very bad crash. The newborn girl and a two-year-old boy did not suffer any injuries because they were "well positioned" in their car seats, according to paramedics. Both the man & woman needed to be extricated from the wreckage before being treated. The woman was treated for serious injuries to her arm & possible internal injuries & was transported to hospital in serious condition. After a prolonged period of extrication, paramedics began treatment but shortly thereafter, pronounced the male deceased at scene. Both of these accidents have occurred between Berry Side Road & Mowbray Street on Kerwin Road.

This petition is to lower the speed limit between these two roads. Instead of warnings of sharp curves a head. Two Families & the whole community of West Carleton have suffered great pain & loss. This will help prevent any further accidents and provide safer driving conditions for the residence of West Carleton.

We, the undersigned, call upon the City Of Ottawa to reduce the speed limit on Kerwin Road between Berry Side Road and Mowbray Street from 80km/h to 60km/h.
