- Mayor Brian Smith Wasaga Beach Council and John Fisher Ontario Parks
There have been several drownings in Wasaga Beach over several years, Including Zack Haskett, a 9 year old resident of Wasaga Beach who drowned at mouth of the Nottawasaga River and the last only being last Summer 2015, where a young girl died in 7 feet of water.
Since Zack's death, his Family had begun a fundraising campaign that raised money to send kids to swimming lessons who couldn't afford it and have been asking for signs and life rings to be placed along the 14 Km beach as well as the mouth of the Nottawasaga River.
Today Melissa inquired on the status and was told she was to contact John Fisher of Ontario Parks. So essentially we have to make another request to Ontario Parks instead.
We are asking Residents and Friends of Wasaga Beach to sign our petition to get the Town of Wasaga Beach and Ontario Parks to work together to not only agree to put these life saving options along the beach and mouth of the river but as well put in place for 2016.
Please sign and share as much as possible. We need to get as many signatures as possible as quickly as possible since May 24 is next weekend.
Mayor Brian Smith Of Wasaga Beach
Town Council of Wasaga Beach
John Fisher, Ontario Parks
On behalf of the Haskett family and other families who have lost family members due to drowning in Wasaga Beach, we are requesting that the Town of Wasaga Beach to appoint a council member to work with and spearhead a campaign to work with John Fisher and Ontario Parks to have Signs of Drowning Signs and Life Rings placed along the 14 KM of Wasaga Beach including the mouth of the Nottawasaga River. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that drowning is a neglected public health issue.
We believe that the Town of Wasaga Beach should be working with Ontario Parks to get this accomplished for the Summer of 2016. It is time to be proactive towards safety for our Residents as well as our Visitors.
