As a city that values walkable communities, Decatur has made a commitment to sidewalk construction. As the City prepares its transportation plan, there is a critical need to connect existing sidewalks on the eastern side of S. Candler Street, a major artery for the city.
The gap from Pharr Rd. to Park Dr. prevents residents from safely walking to area schools (Winnona Park, College Heights, Renfroe Middle), parks (Dearborn, McCoy, and Oakhurst), and business districts (Oakhurst, Decatur Square, Depot area). Also, there currently is no safe space for those waiting at MARTA bus stops.
We, the undersigned, neighbors in the area of S. Candler Street, Candler Drive, Pharr Road, and Chevelle Lane, wish to see the City of Decatur complete the sidewalks on the eastern side of South Candler Street between Park Drive and Pharr Road.
