In October, 2005, The Oregon State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners chose to reduce fines -- from $20,0000 to $500 -- against Lee Anderson.

Mr. Anderson was practising veterinary medicine without a license, and "in the course of attempting to castrate four horses and ponies, severed the penises of two," one of whom had to be euthanized. Yet the State Vet Board chose to reduce fines against this butcher to 1/40th of the proposed amount!!!

Who is Oregon protecting, pets or their unlicensed butchers? Sign this petition as an act of censure against the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.

We, the undersigned, express our shock and outrage at the actions of Oregon's State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners in the case of Lee Anderson, the unlicensed individual whose botched castrations led to the death of a horse.

By reducing fines against Mr. Anderson from $20,000 to $500, we believe the Oregon Vet Board has abandoned its mission to "protect animal health and welfare, public health, and consumers of veterinary services" and shown instead a desire to act in the interests of those very perpetrators it is mandated to discipline and regulate.

We call upon the State Veterinary Board of Oregon to re-evaluate this decision, which constitutes a dereliction of duty.
