On May 25, 2012, Sergio Vasquez Gutierrez, an active ROC-LA member and leader in the national Dignity at Darden campaign was taken into ICE custody and has been detained for 5 months. He has no family in the United States and has no one to help him pay his $2500 fine to be released from the ICE detention center.

He was recently diagnosed with cancer and is not receiving the treatment he requires to have a chance to live. His health has deteriorated and he is experiencing extreme mental trauma from being detained without a chance to fight his illness with proper cancer treatments. He needs our help!

WE ARE ASKING OUR FRIENDS, ALLIES, AND SUPPORTERS OF IMMIGRANT, WORKER, AND HUMAN RIGHTS TO CONTRIBUTE WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP SERGIO! Please consider donating $20, $50 or whatever you can to help Sergio get released and get cancer treatment as soon as possible, while he still has a chance. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO SERGIO AND HIS NEEDS.

Sergio is one of the many workers across the U.S. who filed a national lawsuit and are engaged in a public campaign against their former employer, The Capital Grille. While at the restaurant, he experienced racial discrimination, wage theft, harassment and bias based on his sexual orientation. He endured verbal abuse and mistreatment from the chefs and management, and was frequently put down for being a gay Latino in a largely sexist, homophobic industry. Like many of the employees at The Capital Grille, Sergio has a very strong case against the parent company, Darden Inc., but he cannot testify and fight in the campaign unless he is released. Please view this video to learn more about Sergio: http://www.dignityatdarden.org/sergios-story---los-angeles.html

I urge you to please help by contributing any amount that you can. He only has until November 29th to get out of the ICE detention center and appeal his case before an Immigration Judge. You can make contributions here: https://www.wepay.com/donations/release-sergio-vasquez-from-ice-detention.

Thank you for your ongoing support!!
