WHO ARE WE?
Balsam Lake Coalition (BLC) was established by Balsam Lake cottage owners to advocate on behalf of Seasonal residents on issues affecting rates & services provided by Hydro One Networks Inc. (HON).
WHAT IS THE ISSUE?
Many Seasonal customers of HON are paying much higher electricity rates compared to other residential customers, for an equal amount of power on the same road. In some cases those (delivery) rates are as much as 1.5 times greater than a residential neighbour's (delivery) rates in the same community.
MISSION STATEMENT
BLC will advocate on behalf of Seasonal residential customers at the Ontario Energy Board & directly with Hydro One in order to bring more equitable rates charged to Seasonal residential customers, throughout HON's Ontario territory.
PROPOSED PLAN OF ACTION
BLC has been granted intervenor status at the Ontario Energy Board & will focus on opposing HON's application for increased (2013) rates, at an upcoming rate hearing. HON's (2013) application included a Density Study which identified that Seasonal rates required rebalancing with either an immediate reduction of 12.6% or a phased multi-year reduction of 2.1%. Hon has proposed the multi-year reduction of 2.1%. BLC is opposed to this solution and is advocating for an immediate reduction of 12.6%

The undersigned believes that Hydro One Networks Inc. (HON), as a government-owned monopoly, has a clear duty to fix fair & equitable electricity rates, and therefore the UNDERSIGNED ASKS HON to recommend (at an upcoming hearing at the Ont. Energy Board) an immediate reduction in delivery rates for Seasonal customers in Ontario.
