Baldwin County seniors only receive a SCHOOL TAX break on their property taxes if their family income is less than $40,000 anually . Many counties throughout the state of Ga. and other states have removed this limit and allow seniors 65 and older to pay NO SCHOOL TAXES.
The problem with this limit is that it doesn't take in to consideration the growing cost of living in Baldwin County. Given that many seniors live on a fixed income, and have no children in public schools, this is unfair taxation of this group.
It's time for Baldwin County to get on the same page and remove this limit.
We, the listed citizens of Baldwin County, Georgia, request that the Baldwin County Board of Commission initiate action to implement a local exemption to provide property tax relief for our senior citizens.
Specifically, we request 100 percent relief from the County's property school tax levey beginning at age 65, without income limitations. Many Georgia counties have already enacted similar local exemptions for their citizens as authorized by the State Constitution.
