The Island Lake Lake Committee will be hearing the pros and cons on making the Lake open to Residents and their Guests ONLY.
One person on the Committee stated that it is the non-residents taking over the limit fish out of the Lake and are the ones leaving their debris behind. This was stated in a Town Meeting in October.
I am vehemently opposed to restricting fishing opportunities and harvesting of fish to only Island Lake residents and their guests.
Island lake has been the beneficiary of State and Federal Grants for the purchase of land for Eastway Park, Veterans Park, the Big Island and a waterfront building sructure.
The total amount of Grants received for properties in the lake itself or adjacent to the lake is approximately $338, 000. The purpose of these Grants is to promote PUBLIC use.
In addition, Island Lake has been open to the public for fishing for 36+ years. It continues to receive benefits from non-residents and remains a fine fishery.
