Just got to know that a noted builder from Bangalore - the Prestige Group is putting up an ambitious project in and around the erstwhile Soundarya Nursery campus, adjacent to the Apollo Cancer Hospital and L.R.Swami Buildings, Teynampet - Nandanam intersection.

Now as the news goes this campus has more than 75 - 100 well grown trees and their days are numbered given the fact that the builder has already started putting up barricades around the campus. Perhaps the felling would begin soon.

Wish we could help save these trees. One knows not if the Prestige Group believes in Corporate Social Responsibility, and I sincerely wish they do not do the same thing that DLF did to the Sivaji Gardens or at the site in C-in-C Road where their corporate office is being located. Let us hope the builder decides to transplant all these trees to better locations.

My enquiry with TNRDC reveals that it hardly takes Rs.5000/- to transplant and sustain a tree. And for this project where the investment should be around a couple of crores trust a sum of Rs.5 lacs or so for a noble cause should not be a great sum to invest. TNRDC has successfully done this along the tolled portion of the ECR and on the IT Corridor.

Do we have a consensus on this? We need to act now and thats just what I can say.

We, the undersigned, call on the Prestige Builders to strongly consider that tree have a definite value and contribute immensely to our environment.

And that you as responsible builders have a Corporate social Responsibility. Hence you may immediately cease felling of trees at the new upcoming project in Chennai on Mount Road and undertake the onerous task to transplant these beautiful that form a vital part of our ecosystem.
