Target:
St. Luke's
Region:
United States of America

This is a petition to attempt to save the jobs of the USA's of St. Luke's. They are vital part of our team, and have a tremendous responsibility to not only this hospital, but to the patients we care for. Losing them will not only cause an increase in employee dissatisfaction it will also negatively affect patient care. The assist with nursing/patient supplies, linens, checks beds, cleans carts, passes food trays, stocks the units with vital materials (toilet paper, trash bags, etc.) stocks and sets up rooms for admits, answers call lights, passes food trays, checks for expired supplies, cleans all equipment that the house keepers don't (IV pumps/poles, vapo-therm's, ventilators, etc., all the items that we use on a daily basis and do not have the time to clean ourselves. They assist with supplies in emergent situations (codes). Makes coffee for patients and families, orders and stocks clean utility rooms with supplies and patient food, checks formula and breast milk for expiration, stock and refill the hand sanitation station. They assist nurses, CAP's, and all other staff with any task that is within their scope. Nurses and CAP's are already overworked, they are pulled away from the bedside more then ever, now to add more on to the already overloaded plates is truly unsafe for the patients. St. Luke's has an enormous issue with staff turnover and employee satisfaction, adding this extra work and responsibility to an already very unhappy staff will have an adverse affect on this hospital, safety will become an issue, and ultimately the patients will suffer.

We, the undersigned, call on the upper management of St. Luke's Health System to reconsider the decision to eliminate the Unit Service Associate position. This decision will adversely effect not only employee satisfaction and morale, but negatively affect patient safety.
