The Belchertown Land Trust is going to remove the Upper Bondsville Dam which will alter and eradicate acres of wetlands and have an adverse effect on the numerous species living in the wetland habitat.
We, the undersigned, are opposed to the removal of the Upper Bondsville Dam which will drain the Swift River and permanently alter over 60 acres of wetlands and eradicate a myriad of species in the diverse wetland habitat. The Swift River directly flows from the Quabbin Reservoir and the Upper Bondsville Dam lies about 2 miles south of the Quabbin Spillway.
The dam has been in existence for over 100 years and has created a lakelike impoundment used for kayaking, canoeing, tubing, fishing, swimming, boating and observing wildlife.
To preserve the Upper Bondsville Dam and Swift River will ensure the existence of this unique ecosystem for generations to come.
