Thanks to those who signed the petition. Unfortunately, we picked up too late news that the Streatham Guardian was under threat. on 18 October 2012 the paper printed a notice that the paper would be changing to a website only.
A media website* which covers regional newspapers has confirmed that the south London free local newspaper the Streatham Guardian is “facing possible closure”. The company has said “We’re not ruling anything in or out at this stage and are considering a number of possibilities".
The Streatham Guardian is a major source of local news in this diverse area of South London. In addition to the printed paper, it provides a weekly online e-edition and provides the only newspaper website in the area which is updated throughout the day with Streatham news.

We the undersigned recognise the difficulties facing many local newspapers across the UK and further afield. We are aware of the valuable role professionally-produced newspapers play in holding public authorities, companies and individuals to account.
We are also aware of the importance of newspapers in both reflecting what happens in local communities and in stimulating community activity and development.
We are concerned that the Streatham Guardian in South London is at risk of closure and urge its proprietors to continue to provide a dedicated news-gathering and reporting operation for Streatham.
