We, undersigned citizens, request that the City of New Britain, CT, via the authority of the New Britain Historic Preservation Commission take the appropriate steps to prevent the unreasonable demolition of the Historic Stanley Works factory complex at 2 Myrtle St and 95 Curtis St, New Britain, CT and issue an immediate Delay of Demolition for all buildings within the complex.

The building complex, though eligible, is not currently listed on the State or National register of historic places, however, is listed in Connecticut’s Industrial Archaeological survey and holds immense historic significance to the city of New Britain. With buildings dating from as early as 1872 and connections to major individuals and innovations relating to the Second American Industrial Revolution, the Stanley Works industrial complex is one of, if not the, most culturally significant sites in the City.

Given the Historical significance of these structures and believing that historic preservation is a key element of long term sustainable development, we request that the City of New Britain and the Historic Preservation Commission enact a full 180 day delay of demolition on all buildings within the Stanley Works industrial complex. Additionally, we ask that the Stanley Black & Decker Corporation immediately halt demolition on all buildings and work with the City to find suitable alternatives that will preserve these historically important buildings.
