Young's want to turn the Spring Grove, a local community pub, into a restaurant. All satellite sports has already gone so they can sift out the regulars.
From August 2014, the Spring had all satellite sports channels removed.
When I emailed to complain about this, I got the following reply from Operations Manager, Helen Moon:
"We are about to invest a substantial amount of money in to The Spring Grove – updating it whilst maintaining all the beautiful Victorian features that the pub is lucky enough to have. We will be investing in a new kitchen and building wonderful dining areas for residents, families and local work force to come and enjoy. We therefore feel that sky (and BT sports) is no longer in keeping with the pub as it will be once we have done the development. We only get one chance a year to opt in or out of these contracts so unfortunately we have had to opt out before the pub gets it’s development. It is in no way a short term money saving decision but more that it will not work in the new pub."
So it is clear that sports lovers and basically the main regulars are no longer welcome and certainly will not be expected in the 'new pub'.
We, the undersigned, whilst welcoming any redevelopment, call on Young's to restore satellite sports channels to the Spring Grove and not turn this friendly, community pub into a soulless restaurant with a bar.
