The City of Prospect contains a rare survivor of a once extensive transport network which provided the first organized public transport in Adelaide - namely the Tram Barn on the corner of Johns Rd and Main North Rd Prospect, as part of the Council’s depot.

The future of the Tram Barn is under threat due to the proposed sale of the depot by Council. It would be a major loss if this historic State Heritage listed building were to end up being demolished in a City whose Strategic and Development Plans call for the preservation of history and heritage.

We urge the City of Prospect to investigate alternative uses for the Tram Barn and to consult residents on potential uses, such as a venue to store and publicly display historic artefacts relating to the City.
