Rick Pollitt, County Executive for Wicomico County has proposed a budget cut for Fiscal Year 2011 to the Wicomico Library System for over $229,000.
The Wicomico County Council will have the final say on the amount and then the Library Board will be given the information to decide which services will have to be cut in order to meet this budget requirements. The Pittsville Branch Library is one of many services that could be cut.
We, the undersigned call on the Wicomico County Council to re-consider the proposed budget cuts directed at the Wicomico County Library system. We Ask you to consider the impact that your actions will have on the voting citizens of Wicomico County.
These cuts could cause local Library Branches such as the Pittsville Branch of the Wicomico Library to be closed indefinitely. We ask you as our representatives to consider the effects that these cuts will have to our local communities and act to reduce the budget cuts proposed to you by County Executive Rick Pollitt.
The Pittsville Branch Library serves a segment of the population that has traditionally been overlooked for services. We rely on the Library Branch to meet the needs of all citizens on the east side of Wicomico County. Senior citizens, children, teens and adults all utilize the Library for educational, social and job resources.
We also ask the Wicomico County Library Board to please fight for us to keep our Library Branch in Pittsville. This service is fundamental to our community and provides services that a majority of our citizens would not have access to without it.
