The City of Sandusky, Ohio is in the process of creating a Master Plan for a complete remake of the Jackson Street Pier located along Sandusky's waterfront. The pier is frequented by locals and visitors alike with ample short-term parking at the pier's northern end to view the many sights and sounds of Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. The pier is used by fisher-persons, walkers, bicyclists, birdwatchers, etc.
We agree the pier needs "greening" but not at the extent proposed.
Initial Master Plan recommendations include eliminating short-term parking at the pier's northern end and replaced with a restaurant, patio seating, a splash pad, etc.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Sandusky to make improvements to the Jackson Street Pier which will preserve a minimum of 40 short-term public parking spaces at the northern end of the pier for the continued public's right to enjoy the sights and sounds of Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. We further call on the City of Sandusky to make improvements to the pier keeping in mind the benefits and needs of ferry services docked at the Jackson Street Pier and do not support transforming the pier for commercial development.
