The Lisbon Players Theatre Association, as it celebrates its 64th year of existence, is under threat from property development interests that involve the Government of the United Kingdom.
The Lisbon Players has been in its present building since 1947 and has developed an intensive theatre programme of presenting works in English to an international audience.
It has become one of the points of reference on the Lisbon theatre scene and its disappearance would be a serious loss to the cultural life of Lisbon.
A Associação de Teatro Lisbon Players, no ano em que celebra 64 anos de existência, encontra-se sob ameaça devido a especulação imobiliária com o envolvimento do Governo Britânico.
Desdo 1947 que os Lisbon Players se encontram no actual edifício. Desde essa data que os Lisbon Players desenvolvem intensa actividade teatral em inglês para um público internacional.
Os Lisbon Players tornaram-se um ponto de referência da cena teatral lisboeta e a sua extição seria uma enorme perda para a vida cultural de Lisboa.
We, the undersigned, urge the Government of the United Kingdom and its agencies in Portugal, in the face of the intended property development on the site of the Lisbon Players Theatre, to take whatever measures are necessary to ensure the survival of the Lisbon Players Theatre Association.
