A call on the IJF to rethink the "2 wazari make an ippon" change in the rules that will apply on January 2018.
Ippon is about perfection. Only a perfect technique - fast, strong and controlled- can be an ippon. In the past, 2 wazaris made an ippon, but back than a wazari was an “almost ippon”, an ippon that was missing one of the elements of perfection. Nowadays, a throw that would barely score a “koka” in the past, can score a wazari.

Here are some reasons why not to settle on the new “2 scores make an ippon” rule:
1. Judo is about perfection. An ippon should be a perfect score, nothing less.
2. Ippons (a real ippon) are the reason for people to watch judo. Stopping a fight after 2 scores would reduce the number of ippons in a competition.
3. Fights with scores on the board are the most interesting – Will the leading player cope with the stress? Can his opponent turn the table? Stopping after 2 scores will cancel out all these fights.
4. Do you really want to see a fight ending after two Yukos?

This new rule would take away the fun out from watching fights. Think of the most exciting fight you’ve witnessed - how many scores were given? Why would you stop the fight after 2 throws? Why would you take away the opportunity to score an ippon from both of the opponents? Nothing feels better than winning a fight with a ippon. A real ippon, a big throw. Not with something’s that used to be a yuko.
For the sake of beautiful judo and exciting matches, please cancel this new change in rules.

We, the undersigned, call on the IJF to update the "wazari wazari makes an ippon" change in the new rules of January 2018 - remove it or restore the value of wazari to its old place: an "almost ippon".
