On 3rd June 2014, travelling showmen lodged an application for planning permission for change of use of the former RAF Camp at Hack Green “to provide 9 yards for travelling showpeople’s families, formation of roads and hard surfacing”.

The former RAF Camp covers an area exceeding 9 acres and is about two thirds of a mile from the junction of Coole Lane and the Nantwich to Whitchurch A530 Road.

Travelling showmen have previously made very similar but unsuccessful applications in respect of the Hack Green site. The last application was made by the Hack Green Group to Crewe & Nantwich Borough Council in 2003. The Hack Green Group appealed against Crewe & Nantwich’s refusal to grant planning permission. That appeal was dismissed in 2006.

The reference number of the planning application with Cheshire East Council is 14/2714N. It can be viewed on the planning pages of Cheshire East Council’s website.

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the Planning Officer to reject the above application on the grounds that the proposal does not comply with planning guidelines in a number of respects:

Among others, that the proposed development is disproportionately large in comparison with the existing community;

that it would create a significant visual impact on the surrounding countryside with associated noise and air quality implications;

that the development would increase traffic density on the local roads and add strain to local services; and

that it would result in a significant loss of wildlife habitat and local biodiversity.
