You signed our Save the Birds petition, and I thank you so much for that. However, when we presented it to our city council on Monday, they said that they want to see a petition that holds signatures from only residents of Indianola within city limits asking them to write a new ordinance.
So.... that brings me to ask you, if you are an Indianola resident to please sign this new petition. One council member said if we could gather 2000 signatures, he may consider adopting an new ordinance.
If you could please do that, we appreciate it more than you know! If you have any comments that you would like the council people to know, you may message them here.
Thanks for all you have helped us with so far in this journey.
The City of Indianola is discussing rewriting Ordinance 55.05 to read, "It is unlawful for a person to keep livestock within the City."
Currently reads - "It is unlawful for a person to keep livestock within the City except by written consent of the Council or except in compliance with the City's zoning regulations."
We, the undersigned, call on the City Council to rewrite Ordinance 55.05 to allow poultry to be kept within City Limits with the following regulations:
1. Allowed in residential and agricultural zoning classifications.
2. Birds must be kept in an enclosure or fenced area at all times. Birds shall be secured within a coop during non-daylight hours.
3. No roosters over 4 months old.
4. Not more than twelve (12) of any one or any combination of poultry, pigeons or other fowl shall be kept by any person or persons on any parcel of land less than one acre in area.
