- Nick Fitzgerald, Athletic Director for South Glens Falls High
- United States of America
Hockey is a growing sport in upstate NY. There are hockey families in the South Glens Falls/Hudson falls school districts totaling approximately 150 players that are not even in the high school ranks yet.
The current team has worked very hard to obtain the talent and skill they have on the ice; many of them playing hockey since they were just 3 years old. They are proud to have an opportunity to show this commitment for their school.
The hockey team is also very community driven. There are many activities the players participate in such as the SGF Holiday parade and they volunteer for Thanksgiving food deliveries at the local community center. In addition, they purchase toys for families in need for the region's Adopt a Child program at Christmastime. We, as a team, are in the community more than any other high school sports team, giving back. This teaches the boys to be good citizens on and off the ice and will carry with them long after they hang up their skates as adults.
Parents, Players, alumni and hockey fans, please unite to keep a South Glens Falls/Hudson Falls hockey program and urge the Athletic Director to look at alternate funding and/or minor cuts elsewhere rather than take a Varsity sport that has a large following and large number of upcoming players.
Please look at alternate funding and/or minor cuts elsewhere rather than remove Varsity Hockey from the 2011-2012 Athletic Budget.
The Save SGF-HF Varsity Hockey petition to Nick Fitzgerald, Athletic Director for South Glens Falls High was written by Georgeanne Hall and is in the category Sports at GoPetition.
