Save Sacred Heart Pre School

Sacred Heart Pre School was originally set up in a classroom at Sacred Heart RC Primary School. The school needed the space back and the pre school were invited by the resident priest to work from the presbytery in the church.

It has provided education and play for over 23 years. It offers all day care including a breakfast club and has provided children for the primary school. They have never been asked for rent but contribute by paying utilities and maintaining the building. They were offered a lease in 2014 which as far as everyone knew was being dealt with by solicitors.The Pre school started new term to find workmen measuring at back of church grounds- were told it was for a nursery portacabin which would be run by the primary school.The diocese stated that the pre school had agreed to this- THIS WAS NOT THE CASE.

Primary school said they would offer morning care only and sent letter out to parents proposing the new nursery plans. A meeting was held in the school to discuss how the primary school and pre school could move forward and work together.

The priest dropped the bombshell that the pre school would be served a 6 month notice to vacate the presbytery. Cumbria County Council [CCC] asked if existing pre school staff would be given jobs and could they provide afternoon and wraparound care - THIS WAS REFUSED. A letter was sent out by primary school to say that they would be offering full day care.
