We understand that the Powerstown Allotment site and the sites on either side along the Powerstown Road could potentially be re-developed as other spaces. Our petition requests that they be designated as a PERMANENT allotment site and natural green spaces for the use of local schools, residents, churches, and allotment holders.
The three sites in question offer a very good cross section of natural habitats (woodland and wetland) and provide sanctuary for birds, insects, and mammals, including some declining and protected species. Their proximity to two primary schools, a new housing estate and a large church, makes this proposal ideal from a community perspective. The opportunity exists almost ready made to offer access to nature-based education as well as outdoor activity, with minimal infrastructural cost.
We, the undersigned, are opposed to any re-development of the Powerstown Allotment site and the sites on either side along the Powerstown Road, and request that they be designated as a PERMANENT allotment site and natural green spaces.
