Save Our Metropolitan Open Land (SOMOL)

We are local residents who are deeply concerned by the adverse affects of a new IAG Free Academy school that has popped up in Lee Green. The first temporary site is within Kings Church in Meadowcourt Road, with a proposal for the permanent site to occupy the tiny space between homes and the flood plain barrier on the Bowring Playingfield; a piece of protected Metropolitan Open Land which is extremely prone to flooding.

Local residents have not been sufficiently informed of the plans to build on the Bowring site, and many are concerned about the implications of a new School built here.

There will be many adverse effects on the local area, including high increase in Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) Pollution, increase traffic and 'rat-running' of local residential roads, loss of protected Metropolitan Open Land and loss of space and light to most affected homes (Meadowcourt Road, Millers Meadow, Hamlea Close and Ravens Way).

Please join us in campaigning to keep our Metropolitan Open Land protected. You can keep informed with news and updates from our website www.somolleegreen.org.uk

We, the undersigned, petition the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council to reject any planning application to build a free school on the site of Bowring Sports Ground which is designated as Metropolitan Open Land.

We feel that building the school will impact negatively on the openness of the land, reduce the green chain corridor and therefore biodiversity and introduce more traffic to an already congested and high pollution area.

We call upon the Royal Borough of Greenwich Council to stop this application.
