There have been seven fatal shark attacks in WA in the last three years. The risk of shark attack is beginning to influence the enjoyment that Western Australian's have always derived from our beautiful beaches and water activities. Users of the ocean are reporting increased sightings of large sharks.
The public called for action. The Government responded and announced that baited drum lines will soon be set 1 kilometre from shore at selected beaches between January and April. Sharks caught by the drum lines will be humanely destroyed.
In addition to continuing surveillance and research into shark behaviour it is important that supporters of the plan let the WA Government know they agree.
We, the undersigned, support the WA Government taking action to protect recreational and professional users of the ocean by catching and destroying large sharks using baited drum lines in selected marine monitored areas.
