Save Marie d'Orliac on Clancarty Road

The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham has recently suggested a site exchange between the French section of Marie d’Orliac and Holy Cross Primary School. This means that the French section would be separated from the Bilingual section and would move to Basuto Road. Holy Cross would then move to Clancarty Road and share the premises with the Bilingual section. This proposal would take effect in 2012.

With this petition, families and members of the school community would like to show their concern regarding this proposal and the future of Marie d’Orliac in general. Whilst this exchange would suit Holy Cross’s plans for expansion, their site on Basuto Road cannot accommodate the current size of Marie d’Orliac even without its bilingual classes. In addition, a recent public consultation revealed a strong opposition from local residents to expansion plans on the Basuto Road site.

Furthermore, we believe the future of the Bilingual section is inextricably linked to its sharing a site with the French section of Marie d’Orliac (French immersion) and that Clancarty Road is the only site with the potential for the necessary expansion of our school.

Finally, Clancarty Road is the perfect site for Marie d'Orliac (good classroom size, playground space and the park opposite).

Le « borough » de Hammersmith and Fulham a récemment proposé à notre école un échange de locaux avec Holy Cross Primary School. La section française de notre école serait alors séparée de la section bilingue et déménagerait à Basuto Road. Holy Cross viendrait s’installer à Clancarty Road et partagerait les locaux avec la section bilingue. Cet échange interviendrait en 2012.

Par cette pétition, les familles et l'ensemble de la communauté scolaire, souhaitent montrer la vive inquiétude suscitée par cette proposition et pour l’avenir de l’école en général.
Le site de Basuto Road n’a pas le potentiel pour accueillir les seuls élèves de la section française. De plus, un projet d’extension sur ce site a récemment été abandonné suite à l’opposition du voisinage.

Par ailleurs, la réussite de la section bilingue de Clancarty Road repose sur une cohabitation quotidienne avec la section française (immersion dans la culture française) et Clancarty Road est le seul site offrant un espace suffisant pour assurer le développement de notre école.

Enfin le site de Clancarty Road est idéal pour Marie d'Orliac (taille de classe suffisante, bon espace de récréation, le parc en face).
