The historic Dragon Café / Barron's Building, 175 Rattray Street, Dunedin, New Zealand, suffered partial collapse on 12 January 2011, apparently due to to the effects of long neglect.

Built in 1875, it has been home to the iconic Dragon Café since 1958. The building can be restored, but its fate depends on the actions of the owners and the Dunedin City Council.

To the Dunedin City Council, Mayor and Councillors,

Please ensure the retention and restoration of the Dragon Café / Barron's Building within the North Princes Street / Moray Place / Exchange Townscape Precinct (TH03). It is a rare survivor of the finest 1870s commercial buildings erected in Dunedin.

Designed by H.F. Hardy, it is one of the best examples of this celebrated architect's work. This is a site of rich cultural history, and home to the iconic café which gives much needed life and vitality to the area.

Dunedin cannot afford to lose this important heritage building.
