Christina Stead's Historic Watsons Bay house is a draft heritage item but is under threat by a plan to add modern extensions and excavate the historic garden which inspired The Man Who Loved Children. In a matter of months if will be listed by the NSW Government but this plan could go through before then.
Authors Jonathan Franzen, Fay Weldon, Alex Miller, Nikki Gemmell, Charlotte Wood and Michelle De Krestor are just some who have called for the house to be a National Heritage Item. Sign this petition to ask for a refusal of the current plans before Council.
We, the undersigned, call on Woollahra Council to reject the DA before it for the Draft Heritage Item Boongarre.
This important house will be a heritage item within months and Council should not allow these unsympathertic development.
Boongarre represents 70 years of history of Christina Stead, David and Thistle Stead and is one of a dwindling number of important houses left in historic Watsons Bay.
