Thank you to all friends, families, and students-past, present and future, who supported our campaign to keep Atlantic View Elementary School open. On March 30, 2011 we were advised of our success in having AVES removed from the School Board's review list. None of this would have been possible without your support. Thank you for your commitment to quality education and the future of our children.
Save Atlantic View Elementary School. Save our Community.
The Lawrencetown community has had a long history of education since its founding 257 years ago. In 1959 the families of Lawrencetown came together and amalgamated the various one room school houses from Seaforth, Three Fathom Harbour, East Lawrencetown, Upper Lawrencetown, Mineville, and West Road; providing a single educational centre to all of these areas from Primary to Grade 8.
And so it was in 1960 Atlantic View Elementary School opened its doors; becoming the focal point of the Lawrencetown community. Twenty five years ago the original building was expanded to meet the additional educational needs of our community. Despite their claims that they support community-based schools this recent announcement by the Halifax Regional School Board to close Atlantic View Elementary School will only serve to pull our community apart and threaten the very existence of Lawrencetown and its community identity.
We, the undersigned, call on the Halifax Regional School Board, to stop the plans made to close Atlantic View Elementary School.
