Alloy Steel Plant, Durgapur is a pioneer in the production of stainlesssteel in India. It's products are used by the Defence, Railway, Space Research Organisation, Nuclear Power Plants, Automobile Engineering and other important sectors.
Only a few years ago when India was debarred to import Alloy Steels required for making Bofors Cannon Shells during Kargil conflict and high quality special stainless steel for our Atomic Research Centres after the nuclear test at Pokhran, it was A.S.P., Durgapur which come forward to produce all these materials required at the moment of national crisis.
Special Steel ISCDV6 grade produced by A.S.P. has been used in constructing India's indigenous missile "AGNI".
We, the undersigned, call on the Prime Minister of India to eliminate the sale of Alloy Steel Plant, where the special steels for Defence, Rail, Automobile and Scientific Research etc. are being produced for years together.
Sale of such a Steel Plant will not only doom Durgapur, but far reaching impact will also endanger fate of economy of West Bengal as a whole. Alloy Steel Plant can be easily survived by following the suggestion of Centre for Engineering and Technologies ( Consultancy unit of SAIL ) proposal. It would be a national loss if A.S.P., a holder of ISO-9002 (2008) Certificate, is thrown away.
