Safety First!
Every child has the right to an education and every child has the right to travel to and from school safely.
"The School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) provides eligible school students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
If a student lives too close to the school to be eligible they may still be eligible for a School Term Bus Pass which provides discounted travel on buses."
NO child should be denied access to public transport to get to and from school. The eligibility criteria requiring kids to reside more than 2.9kms or further from their school is leaving our children vulnerable and at risk.
The Central Coast of NSW has been devastated by the horrific attack of a 12 year old child walking to school. In the wake of the attack which has outraged and unified the community the absurdity of the eligibility criteria has been made tragically clear.
NO child should be denied access to public transport because they are deemed to live too close.

We, the undersigned, call on the government of New South Wales to provide every school student access to free public transport to and from school. We call for the same eligibility criteria that currently applies to children in Kindergarten through to Year 2 - Resident of NSW. No minimum distance criteria applies.
Our government provides drug addicts access to free syringes and needles yet our precious kids are denied a way to get to and from school safely.
This MUST change.
