Last year £1.167m was allocated for carers in Brighton & Hove by central government through the Area Based Grant, with £1.017m actually spent by the Council on carers services. This year the allocation amount has dropped in real terms by £36,000 and with pressures on budgets there is every chance that the amount actually spent locally on carers could reduce even further.

Even the extra £400 million recently announced by the government for Carers Breaks is not protected, so it could be that very few carers in the city actually get to benefit from it.

The Carers Centre for Brighton & Hove is calling upon Brighton & Hove City Council to ringfence the money allocated to it for carers, to ensure that all of it goes to benefit carers in the city. By signing up below, you are showing your support for The Carers Centre campaign.

I believe that funding for carers allocated to Brighton & Hove City Council from central government should be ringfenced and used for the purpose it was intended for.
