With reference to council's recent letter to residents of Hopetoun & Roberts St Camperdown (Garbage & recycling bins left in a public place 25/11/10).

Council would be aware that "open space" in inner city properties is limited and that reduced services (less frequent collections) and an expanded range of bins has only served to place additional strain on residents ability to accommodate councils needs.

Furthermore, the area separating the above mentioned streets, known as Roberts Lane, provides adequate width for the infrequent passage of medium to large vehicles even when bins are not located on the bordering gutter strips.

We, the residents of Hopetoun & Roberts St Camperdown, object to the suggestion that the storage of refuse and waste bins at the rear of our properties creates any ongoing form of obstruction or other hazard.

We would ask that council take into account the abovementioned facts and enter into consultation with the residents before attempting to institute any form of monetary penalty.
