The nursery at Poppleton Ousebank School will close 1 week earlier than the school - Friday 13th July. (This is to enable staff to undertake home visits that have historically taken place in September when the child begins at the nursery).
All three and four year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free nursery education for 38 weeks of the year. This can reflect a cost saving of £100 a week in childcare.
If this unusual planned closure takes place we will not have used our full entitlement - just 37 weeks. For those who use this nursery as childcare whilst at work it will cause great inconvenience and also additional cost for child care.
We also note the inflexibility as a rota is in place and all sessions are full, you are unable to receive a refund for the difference. Bearing in mind the option of FULL TIME nursery care is not available to all of us.
We strongly feel that the nursery should use their usual plan of visiting new children in the September as this would provide them with continuity. The current nursery children would be effected two fold due to the staggered intake in September (another child care cost)... making the summer break 7-8 weeks long. A lot of childcare to cover!
