Teacher did not get the students' consent if Carlos should be out of the play. The teacher had described the students as a family and as a family every student should have their consent. Carlos could not physically perform his song in the play due to the medication he was prescribed. The teacher failed to mention this when he explained to the cast what happened.
Students are now turning against Carlos because the teacher made it seem like Carlos was to blame even though he tried to compromise with the teacher. Even after he could not succeed, he came back with an apology and yet the teacher still refused to forgive and let him have a place in the play. The student who was recast as Sebastian told some of the cast mates that she would be willing to give up her part if Carlos came back. Carlos has put in endless time and effort to make this performance phenomenal and feels, due to the circumstances, that this was unappreciated. To particular students it does not feel right to put on a show in which their friend, and fellow cast mate isn't acknowledge.
As a few of his friends have noticed, Carlos is inconsolable and as his friends, we feel the same way because it pains us to see him hurt. What hurts us the most is that we are not a family without him. In a true family, no one gets left behind.
We, the cast of The Little Mermaid Junior, ask for at least reconsideration of Carlos's current casting in the play.
In regards to this petition, we are not trying to intensify problems and stress.
We felt that our opinions and feelings needed to be expressed.
