The Balmain Town Hall, Balmain Library and surrounding area is an incredibly important part of our local heritage. The Town Hall Precinct should be a thriving community hub, attracting local events and community meetings, but our Town Hall precinct has been neglected by the Inner West Council.

The paint is peeling and chipped inside and out, the Town Hall Meeting Room was flooded earlier this year due to unkempt gutters full of mud. For anyone holding a function, the toilets are not maintained, kitchen facilities are poor, and the surrounding garden beds are overgrown and full of weeds.

The Balmain Library has barely received any funding since a refurbishment over a decade ago, and as a result the building is looking tired and unloved. We can’t afford for our beautiful heritage buildings to be left to deteriorate.

We call on the Inner West Council to commit to refurbishing the Balmain Town Hall and Balmain Library to restore them to their former glory by:
• Repairing the Town Hall Meeting Room following flooding earlier
• Modernise the kitchen and bathroom facilities in line with health and safety standards
• Paint and refurbish the Balmain Library
• Replant the outdoor areas around the precinct and install better public seating and lighting
Council has recently completed the amazing world-class Marrickville Library, now Balmain also deserves to have excellent community facilities. The heritage heart of Balmain must be restored!
